If
you ever wonder if dreams really do come true, just ask Chelsea
Colvard. On the evening of November 16, 2008, in Midwest City,
Oklahoma, at the Rose State College Performing Arts Center, her
dream became a reality. Competing in her very first pageant ever,
Chelsea hoped to walk away having had lots of fun and new friends.
It was a great surprise and honor when she realized that she
had just been crowned Miss Oklahoma Teen USA 2009.
Born
on December 31, 1990, Chelsea attends school in Tulsa, Oklahoma
and will complete her high school studies this year at Tulsa
Community College. During her high school years her favorite
subjects have been French and Drama. Future dreams include
acting school and becoming an actress on the big screen, but
she also has college interests in the field of Psychology where
she would like to focus on counseling children. Currently,
Chelsea works as a Vision Therapist at the Oklahoma Vision
Development Center in Tulsa.
Chelsea
enjoys traveling and spent a month in Europe this past summer
where she was able to spend time with her French pen pal and
do lots of sight seeing, as well as brush up on her French,
which she is very accomplished at. If you asked her where she
would like to travel next you can bet that the answer would
be Africa. Volunteering her time at an orphanage in Ghana,
Kenya or Uganda has been a passionate dream of Chelsea’s
for some time now where she would like to share her talents
in drama and art with the children.
Being
a comedic actress at heart, it has been her mission all of
her life to make others laugh. Starting out doing talent shows
in her living room for her family, Chelsea is now a member
of Youth On Stage, a Tulsa area youth acting troupe, where
she has played a variety of rolls including Jessica Olive in
Done To Death, and Princess Nepthys in Osiris Blinded. Her
favorite roles are most definitely the comedy roles.
Community
Service has been a part of Chelsea’s life since she was
just a young child. She has given over 300 hours to the Salvation
Army, working with their Angel Tree Ministry during the holidays
as well as serving holiday meals to the needy. She has also
volunteered for the last three years at St. Francis Hospital
in their outpatient surgery department. Chelsea is excited
about the opportunities to go out and speak to kids around
the state and be a positive influence in their lives. Her favorite
quote is “It’s not a mistake until you’ve
refused to learn from it”, and she plans to use that
quote to help kids learn to make positive choices.
Chelsea
is the daughter of Dennis and Betsye Colvard. She has one sister,
Molly Colvard who is a sophomore at Oklahoma City University.
