On
the evening of December 2, 2007, in the city of Norman
Oklahoma, the audience at the Nancy O’Brian
Center for performing arts welcomed Miss Southwest
Oklahoma, Lindsey Jo Harrington, as the new Miss
Oklahoma USA 2008.
Lindsey
Jo, a resident of Stillwater, Oklahoma, is a 21-year-old
senior at Oklahoma State
University. She
is majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders
with a minor in Educational Psychology. Lindsey Jo’s
future career goal is to earn her master’s degree
in Speech-Language Pathology, then to be employed in
a hospital setting while working with geriatric stroke
patients and infants with swallowing difficulties.
Lindsey
Jo supports many charities with her time and resources.
Some of these charities include, but are not
limited to, Coach’s vs. Cancer, Breast and Ovarian
Cancer Awareness, Operation Smile, Toys for Tots, Seasonal
Food Drives, Into the Streets, and OSU’s Rock the
Vote.
In
her free time, Lindsey Jo enjoys hunting, fishing
and target shooting. Lindsey Jo also, loves cooking
for her closest friends, whether it’s a simple meal
over a camp fire or a creative dinner party for her girlfriends.
She also enjoys working out and participating in spin
classes at her local gym.
While competing for the title of Miss Oklahoma USA
2008, Lindsey Jo was asked, “What is the best advice
you have ever been given.” She replied, “The
best advice I have ever been given was from my mother
who has always told me to keep a smile on my face because
you never know who might be falling in love with it.” Lindsey
Jo is a very simple person who can relate to anyone and
prides herself in being a very self-sufficient, humble
young woman who has the ability to make anyone feel as
though they are the only person in the room.
Lindsey
Jo is the daughter of Dennis and Sherry Harrington
from Frederick Oklahoma. She has two older brothers
and
one older sister: Jeremy Gossett 29, Casey Harrington
29, and Rachel Owens 24, wife to Michael Owens.
Lindsey
Jo did not only earn the title of Miss Oklahoma, but
she has also worked very hard to earn many academic
scholarships, such as: OSU Presidential Freedom Scholarship,
President’s Leadership Council, Clara Berry Scholarship,
and Lawton Community Foundation Scholarship. She was
also one of the lucky 250 students out of 80,000 applicants
across the United States, to be selected as a Coca-Cola
scholar.
Lindsey
Jo plans to use the title of Miss Oklahoma USA 2008
to share the importance of building self-confidence
in everyday activities and teaching students to believe
in themselves so that they may achieve their life goals.
She is available for interviews, speaking engagements,
emceeing events, autograph signing, or any other hosted
event.
She
will represent Oklahoma at the 2008 MISS USA Pageant
this April 11th in Las Vegas, Nevada. The MISS
USA pageant
will be televised live on the NBC television network.
